Sources & editorial approach
We want you to know where the numbers come from and where their limits begin.
Primary sources we prioritize
- U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA): Nutrition Facts labeling, Daily Values, serving sizes, added sugars, sodium, and label education.
- USDA FoodData Central: food composition and nutrient data when we publish food-specific nutrition pages.
- NIH Office of Dietary Supplements: evidence-based fact sheets and safety information for vitamins, minerals, botanicals, and other supplements.
What we do not do
We do not diagnose conditions, prescribe diets, promise treatment effects, or use a single nutrient to label a food universally “good” or “bad.” When evidence is uncertain or individual circumstances matter, we say so.
How tools are designed
Our tools expose their assumptions. The label analyzer uses published FDA Daily Values and the FDA’s low/high %DV rule of thumb. Other calculators are explicitly educational estimates.
